Candidate Response: Bryan Largay
3. The District is experiencing extraordinary difficulty in attracting and retaining highly qualified senior staff. How do you think the District should address these staffing challenges?
I see three ways for us to tackle the crisis of staffing at the water district. We have lost 10 qualified professionals since 2018, several of whom cited poor treatment by one or more board members as a factor leading them to quit working at the district. It is essential for our board meetings to demonstrate civility and respect for staff. Secondly, it is essential that the district is fully staffed with competent professionals, and does not rely on temporary service workers. That will result in a reliable team atmosphere that is mutually supportive. Lastly, it is necessary to provide adequate compensation to the staff of the district. District employees should be able to afford to live in our community, and we certainly want them drinking the same water as us.
