Candidate Response: Bryan Largay
4. The District enacted a new rate structure in the spring of 2024, but Measure U seeks to repeal portions of the new rate structure and to restrict further increases in the base rate to 2% per year. What is your view of Measure U?
Measure U is a train wreck waiting to happen. It will result and substantial disruption to the water supply creating unpredictability similar to what we have seen in downtown boulder Creek and at Boulder Creek Elementary School in the past year, when they did not have water for days. Working families were badly hurt by those events. We need to invest now in our fixed infrastructure, which will save us money in the future. Not only our emergency repairs horribly disruptive, but they are horribly expensive. It is dishonestly marketed as a benefit to low-income families. But the water district already has a Rate Assistance Program for low-income households.
