The Friends of San Lorenzo Valley Water is a group of local residents working to ensure clean and healthy water for all who live in the SLV.
We bring together research, analysis, and a deep concern for our community to develop and advocate for programs that:
Protect our local watershed and aquifers.
Repair, maintain, and improve our water-delivery infrastructure.
Preserve affordable water rates for those in need.
Promote the District's long-term financial well-being in the face of rising costs.
We investigate, encourage action, and help SLV residents to track and understand evolving water-related issues in our community.
Water District Basics
Our local water district is well-run, but it also faces important challenges. Its ability to overcome these challenges, and our continued access to safe and affordable water, ultimately depend on our willingness as a community to learn about these issues and to support our water district in confronting them.
Investigations
Many of the issues currently facing our Water District are complex and challenging to evaluate. Board members and staff have limited time to devote to in-depth research. Our group serves as an additional resource. We undertake deeper investigations and share our understanding with both the Water District and the SLV community at large.
Recommendations
Well-informed and well-intentioned people sometimes disagree over the best course of action. In such cases, our group advocates for decisions that address our key concerns, based on the best scientific data. We find the most promising ideas from a wide range of sources and sponsor them.
Public Understanding
We believe that the role of our community in promoting good governance extends well beyond voting in annual elections. The better informed we all are on an ongoing basis about important local issues, the easier it will be for our elected officials to routinely act in our best interest.
Special Topics
As a public service, we also produce objective and carefully researched reports on special water-related topics of interest to the San Lorenzo Valley community.
The state of California recognizes access to safe and affordable water as a basic human right.
FSLVW is working to make safe and affordable water an enduring reality in the San Lorenzo Valley.
