I am retired from a 39-year career in business management working for both very large companies (Hitachi, H.J. Heinz & IBM) and small tech startups. I spent 25 years working for Silicon Valley tech firms. Positions held included Product Manager, Director of Product Management, Director of Marketing, Vice President of Products and Vice President of Marketing.
During my career I successfully managed teams of up to 25 persons. Persons I hired and developed often went on to very successful careers at Microsoft, Novell, Amazon and other companies. In my role in product management, I had to coordinate the efforts of the rest of the company on behalf of my product(s). That meant I had to work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Finance, Tech Support, and Sales teams on an ongoing basis.
Products that I managed and/or marketed won numerous awards (Storage Product of the Year 3 times, PC Magazine Editor's Choice, PC Computing Magazine’s MVP award/Usability Achievement of the Year Award, and others) Three times products that I initiated lead to successful acquisition of the company by larger public corporations.
